Boston Medical Center Department of Family Medicine
The residency program at Boston Medical Center (BMC) Department of Family Medicine will begin in January 2010. Two graduates will be accepted into the program (based on application, interview and fulfillment of requirements) to treat patients on Tuesdays from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Applicants must have a current Massachusetts acupuncture license and either provide proof of malpractice coverage or just have graduated from NESA. Those accepted into the program will comply with all of Boston Medical Center's requirements: documentation of required immunizations, participation in two-step TB testing, CORI check, training in Logician (hospital-based computer medical records system), obtaining of BMC IDs, BMC orientation and safety training.
Patients for this residency will be schedule by the department of family medicine every 30 minutes, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Each resident will have two treatment rooms available for seeing patients. The residents will be oriented to the department of family medicine by Ellen Highfield, LicAc, director of acupuncture programs and assistant professor, department of family medicine, and will be attended by Ms. Highfield during the clinical rotation. Each week the first half hour will be set aside for case discussion with Ms. Highfield. Residents will be assigned a separate clinical mentor for graduate mentoring sessions. These sessions will meet for one hour every four weeks.
Learning objectives of this program include gaining competency in electronic medical recordkeeping, gaining competency in working in a Western medical setting and advanced discussion of Chinese medical theory.
Cost: $850 for 9 CAEs (9 hours of case discussion, 42 hours of clinical treatment)
