The DCRC Administrative Core
The Administrative Core provides essential administrative
and training services and support for our DCRC: The NESA
Acupuncture Research Collaborative. Expertise in the development,
management and conduct of, and reporting for research projects is
critical for the successful conduct of clinical trials research
and the continuance of NIH supported research. The purpose of the
Administrative Core is to provide these services to the three
projects in the DCRC; to train NESA faculty, staff, and students
in the responsible conduct and management of research; and to help
NESA develop the capacity to provide these services themselves as
part of its progress toward becoming an independent research center.
The Administrative Core provides training and oversight in two areas:
infrastructure/administrative policies and procedures development,
and research methods/conduct of research. Investigators, institutional
financial managers, program coordinators, research assistants, and
students are provided with mentors and opportunities for didactic
seminars, one-on-one training sessions, and "on-the-job"
experiences in identifying research opportunities, developing research
proposals, conducting research including subject recruitment and
data management, and accounting of and reporting on research projects.
The Core ensures that all NIH management and reporting requirements
for all projects are met; coordinates the development
and negotiation of an institutional facilities and administration
rate for NESA; coordinates all financial management of the projects
and cores; provides training in both administrative management and
clinical research skills; and coordinates support for common activities
of the projects, including meetings of the external and internal
advisory committees, an executive committee, and any other joint
meetings of the project leaders and investigators. Members of the
Administrative Core bring extensive experience in financial, administrative, and
clinical research project management; development of research projects;
and the teaching of research methods and responsible conduct of
research.
