The Collection

The Kelly Library supports NESA's academic programs through a collection of books, journals, and multi-media resources on Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. The growing collection focuses on traditional and modern Acupuncture with origins in China, Japan, Korea, and other East Asian cultures. The collection includes in-depth information on Chinese Herbal Medicine, as well as other aspects of Oriental Medicine, culture, philosophy and history. In addition, the collection contains a number of science and biomedical texts, along with materials about a variety of alternative and complementary medicine modalities. Information regarding Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine licensing procedures and regulations, newsletters from professional organizations, and general information relevant to the Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine profession is available in the library as well. Past course syllabi are also housed in the collection and are available for reading in the library.

As of March 2008 the library maintains subscriptions to some 73 print journals newsletters. An additional 86 journals newsletters which have either ceased publishing or for which we have no current subscription are also available. In addition to its print collection, the Kelly Library offers users journal articles in electronic formats (PDF and HTML) through the library's website: access is available directly from journal publishers and through research databases. NESA students, faculty and alum have access to over 2400 print and electronic journals through the library's resources. Subscription databases can be accessed through the internet using the barcode number from your NESA ID card.

At the end of March 2008 there were over 5733 books, CDs and audio/visual cassettes, and journal issues held in the print collection.

All journals received in the library are indexed at an article level in one of the bibliographic research databases available through the library's website or in the library's own database, OMLit©; as such there is a record for most articles held in the library's collection. Using the library's OMLit© database and the research databases users can locate journal articles in the collection. As of March 2008 there are now 34688 articles cited in the Kellyarticles database; this number grows by 100-300 articles each month. There is no other resource available that can provide this level of access to literature relevant to Oriental Medicine.
