The Kelly Library uses call numbers developed by the National Library of Medicine (NLM),
makers of PubMed/Medline, to organize books by subject on the shelves. This system is
based on the Library of Congress (LC) method. Sections of LCs call number
classification system specific to medicine are further refined by NLM and
made available to medical libraries for their use. Below is a list of subject headings in the
LC system. Our library contains items in all classification areas; materials that are
specifically medical will be found in the Q and W classifications. These categories are
organized by the National Library of Medicine. For details on NLM classifications, refer
to the NLM
Classification Schedule on their web site.
