SUGGESTIONS FOR A TROUBLE-FREE PROTOCOL REVIEW:

The NESA IRB offers a pre-review service. We hope you'll take advantage of it, and look on the feedback and the oversight you receive as a way to expedite the review process.
Protocol Pre-review Instruction/ Application

Protocol Pre-review Information

We are also available to:

  • Discuss human subjects issues such as risks and benefits, informed consent, privacy and confidentiality
  • Pre-review your protocol and consent form to identify potential problems prior to your IRB review
  • Provide educational information on the protection of human research subjects
  • Provide and help in the preparation of IRB documents and forms

Once you're ready to prepare your protocol for review:

  1. Always check the NESA web site for the latest version of the applications and instructions.
  2. Be sure you have completed the entire application, that all appropriate signatures are there, and include any approval letters from outside agencies.
  3. If you used the pre-review service, attach a copy of all of the pre-reviewers comments with your responses to all of the comments. Then highlight all changes you have made to your protocol based on the pre-review.
  4. Include page numbering, a version number and version date.

Please download and print the document below to assist you with your preparation for IRB review. Be sure to include this checklist with your submission for review: Investigator Checklist

Following the suggestions listed above and those made to you by the pre-reviewers won't guarantee that the IRB will approve your research the first time around, but it greatly increases the chances that the process will go more quickly.
